The observations, tidbits and confessions shared on these pages are mostly for my family... just in case...

Day 25. 10 small moments

Day 25. 10 small moments

1.  He brings her to me, and I wake to her goofy smile (full of teeth!) and her snuggles. I change her, and then place her on the floor as I pack some of her clothes knowing that the weather will be wet and warm.

2. He makes blueberry pancakes. The coffee tastes a little thinner than usual, but I feel badly pointing it out and drink two cups of it anyway.

3. I'm elated that I didn't miss out on any of the peonies. I was able to make two vases for inside with enough to simply enjoy them in the garden. Peonies are majestic and ephemeral. I'm a sucker for that kind of dichotomy.

4. The five of us walk to our new house, and I imagine what it will be like crossing the busy street on a regular basis.

5. There's a large Japanese Maple growing in the front corner of the house that I didn't notice before. I had always wanted one -- ever since I grew up in a house that had one. I always had plans to plant one, but couldn't figure out where in our previous and current house, and maybe the stars were waiting to be aligned at this moment... And then my stomach drops and I feel that this small thing is too much. I worry that Lady Fortuna is turning her head and taking note.

6. We walk through the house with the previous owners, and it is a strange mixture of sadness, excitement, the sharing of household administrative logistics, the sharing of past/future family events. I hug her and promise her that I will take care of her home. I will fill it with happy memories.

7. We pack up the car, and then finally have the time to focus and catch up with each other. The drive goes quickly.

8. The lupines are almost done. The roses have started blooming profusely. It's so lush and green here, and the kids morph quickly and naturally into their beautiful feral selves.

9. All five of us are in the fishing boat and on top of each other. He caught a small mouth bass, but didn't want to hold it too close. His eyes twinkle with self-confidence, and his dimple deepens with his big smile.

10. It's late but the boys start a fire and chatter like monkeys while she sleeps.
