The observations, tidbits and confessions shared on these pages are mostly for my family... just in case...

Day 39. 10 small moments

Day 39. 10 small moments

1. It always takes her awhile to wake up fully and join society... And the boys are like loud excited puppies when she enters the room each morning. Meanwhile, her hair hangs down the front of her face while she grunts at everyone as if demanding autonomy and/or coffee. She is my mini-me in this charming morning demeanor. My heart grows 2 times bigger.

2. She and I walk outside in the light rain while we wait. I zip up her jacket. The morning is lovely, even so. The leaves around us are a glossy yellow from the rain. I try and slow down and enjoy the moment.

3. Traffic. Rain. The radio. Everyone is hurrying. Hurrying to work. Hurrying to vote. Hurrying to get through the morning commute. Hurry. Hurry. Hurry!

4. We discuss my past to explain my present and future. She mentions how great it sounded (past tense). I agree. My heart aches a little. This is a new stanza of the same poem of sorts, and I remind myself that I am blessed with choices (plural).

5. We drive and park and buy multiple large pieces of furniture in under 25 minutes. This is one of many reasons that we‘re perfect partners in our unspoken agreements regarding both aesthetics and efficiencies.

6. My dentist is in a new office with new furniture and TV screens in each room showing HGTV. My teeth are cleaned and flossed while I ponder the relationship of Chip and Joanna... They’re perfect partners in unspoken agreements regarding both aesthetics and efficiencies.

7. I drive to the house and the crew helps me get the behemoth dresser to the garage with a sheet of wood, a skid steer and elbow grease. Kind and generous and hardworking.

8. I stop into our Shorewood cafe and am so happy to see them. They steam up eight cups of hot cocoa for me to bring back to the crew for my thanks. Kind and generous and hardworking.

9. I did a thing. It was important.

10. He puts her to bed and then goes downstairs to watch the election results. Meanwhile, I read to them about various dragon varieties, and the dragons’ propensities to horde material wealth and speak languages of humans. There is something witty to be found here somewhere, but the long day is soon over. And I’ll need rest for whatever tomorrow brings.
