The observations, tidbits and confessions shared on these pages are mostly for my family... just in case...

Day 27. 10 small moments

Day 27. 10 small moments

1. She wakes up at 5:15 a.m. ready to go. He takes her before she can wake up the boys. Then he drives around in the boat and sends me photos while I fully wake.

2. We have our first coffee of the day together on the dock while she’s in her stroller. We discuss plans for the day; for the week; for the month...

3. We walk up to the barn to see the progress of the wildflower and grass seed, and also to show him the inside of the barn. Along the way, we talk about the little things and catch up.

4. Milkweed is so earthy and magical and (like many things) becomes more beautiful the more you appreciate it.

5. She goes down for her nap easily, and I hesitate about putting a dab of Neosporin on her healing nose. I weigh out my options, and I choose not to take the risk of waking her.

6. I can’t believe she’s in high school. She’s so lovely and mature and kind... I still remember her as a little girl, grinning ear to ear, while holding a huge bull frog in her hands.

7. She’s the only one in our family wearing red, white and blue. When the big fireworks on the lake aren’t until Friday, it’s hard for me to get into the holiday with patriotic punctuality. Actually, it's hard for me to feel patriotic-anything lately.

8. I make a fire. The wood and paper burn easily. It’s about recognizing the small wins.

9. Mosquitoes. The real reason I can’t be a Buddhist monk: If there was a gadget that eviscerated every mosquito in a 100 yard diameter of my person I would Amazon Prime that shit, no problem.

10. I read My Little Pony short stories to him before bed. I love that they love My Little Pony, and that they truly believe that “friendship is magic.”
