Day 28. 10 small moments
1. I leave early (wearing my pajama top under a sweatshirt) to bring them back breakfast: 49er pancakes from the Pancake House and a Coffee-Butter + Bacon Waffle from our cafe.
2. It's a gorgeous morning, but I wolf down my breakfast across from him at the cafe. He's grouchy and I'm in a hurry. I don't give myself the time to savor the experience. To *really* listen to him when he points out that the hops will be amazing next year. This is not an ideal way to start the day.
3. I drive to drop him off at day-camp. Our discussion during the ride is mostly: What is the difference between a cold and a virus? He says that he likes the metaphor of thinking of our bodies and organs and systems as if they are like an army fighting and defending. I share with him my view that they're like sacred temples that need quiet and reflection. We settle on agreeing that they're temples that need defending.
4. Mountain of laundry.
5. She arrives and washes her hands right away. My youngest reaches out to her with open arms to be carried. This trial day is off to a great start.
6. I pick him up from day-camp. Our discussion during the ride is mostly: If he is teaching other kids how to code a program he knows is he learning while he's teaching? I share with him the concept of open source code. He says that he likes that philosophy very much.
7. I inhale a lunch of left overs and make a commitment to myself to savor dinner slowly with a glass of wine.
8. I visit the new house and make notes on the landscaping changes. Tulips. Bleeding Hearts. Peonies. White roses. Climbing Hydrangeas. I see them forming together and creating our sanctuary.
9. There is something so wonderful about a trellis. Even the simplest ones are remarkable... possibly because they're so beneficial while asking for nothing in return as they blend into the background. I wonder how to be more like a trellis.
10. After dinner he tells us (calmly) that he was born before the Big Bang on an ice planet, and that his real parents' names are Stryker and Dark Lady... Yeah, this kid is pretty special...
